Central Rips Lamar Community College in Western District Finals Game 1

Central Rips Lamar Community College in Western District Finals Game 1

And the hits just keep on comin'.

19 of them in all. Five from Ernny Ordonez, four from Liam Spence. Jacob McKeon, Josh Dudden and Brennan Reback all added two more and the Vaqueros from Central Arizona added nine runs in the top of the seventh to put away Lamar Community College of Colorado with a final of 20-5 in Game 1 of the double elimination Western District Finals Thursday afternoon.

You could look at the box score and see that red-hot cleanup hitter Zach Hogueisson had only one hit (a homerun at that) and think that if that guy was shut down, how did the rest of the bunch do?

Pitcher Jonathan Stroman gave up four runs in the bottom of the first and that was pretty much it. Lamar managed only three hits the rest of the game as Stroman fanned nine batters, and Central moves to the winners bracket to face Southern Nevada Friday at 2PM Pacific.

if there ever was a post season rival, it would surely be the College of Southern Nevada when you consider the post season battles and even the in-season battles these two have had. These two clubs are different than the other two Western District finalists in Lamar and Trinidad State.

When you consider the injuries that Spence has gone through for two years or more, and that head coach Anthony Gilich as stuck with him through all that, fully knowing his skill, and desire to excel, it makes it a remarkable feat that Spence is finally back to his normal self...just in time.

Spence hit his first two homeruns of the season and drove in five runs in the lead-off spot Thursday. Consider that when the lead-off has five ribi's, the bottom of the order must be on base a ton too.

Ordonez and Reback each drove in three more runs with Ordonez going 5-6 with a double and Reback adding a two-run single and triple.

"Eso numero 26 es mio!" said Ordonez' father as he watched.

Jacob McKeon doubled twice and Josh Dudden stroked a two-run single to add on.

Talk about tough. The relieving Lamar College pitcher had a really tough day locating and when he did locate, Central was ripping the baseball all over the place. But in a "whoops" moment, catcher Brady Welch was hit by a pitch and completely shrugged it off.
