Vaqueros Baseball Hosting USA Olympic Baseball Team
The 2019 JUCO National Champion Central Arizona College Baseball team will be hosting the USA Olympic baseball team in a game Sunday October 27th at 3PM at the KC Royals spring training complex It will be free to attend.
2020 USA Olympic Baseball Team Roster
Baseball will be featured at the 2020 Summer Olympics, in Tokyo, for the first time since the 2008 Summer Olympics.[1] Six national teams will compete in the tournament; one of which will be Team Japan, and another of which will be Team Israel. Baseball/softball is one of five sports that were added to the program of the 2020 Summer Olympics only, with no guarantee it will return in 2024.
The team does include MLB veterans, including pitcher Clayton Richard and 39-year-old catcher Erik Kratz, the oldest player. It also includes seven of the MLB Pipeline top-100 prospects, led by Los Angeles Angels outfield prospect Jo Adell. Daulton Varsho, a catcher/outfielder in the Diamondbacks system, is on the 28-man roster that includes former Cal star Andrew Vaughn and former Arizona infielder Bobby Dalbec.
The small number of teams in the tournament resulted in an unusual competition format being adopted that will feature 16 games. There will be an opening group round-robin round, and a modified double-elimination bracket.
The U.S. team is training through Monday in Surprise before playing in the WBSC Premier12 tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico, on Nov. 2-4. The top two finishers from Group A, which includes the Dominican Republic, Mexico and the Netherlands, advance to a super round in Tokyo on Nov. 11-16.
The U.S. team is managed by Scott Brosius, a change made this week after Joe Girardi left to pursue major league managerial opportunities. Willie Randolph is the bench coach and Ernie Young, who played briefly with the Diamondbacks, is coaching third base.
