Vaqueros Tally 24 Runs in DH Sweep Of Paradise Valley

Central Arizona started the 71 degree day at 10-0 and the Pumas started at 0-6. It's Saturday and conference play begins for the ACCAC.

Vinnie Lagatta got a nice one on his lower right leg from Paradise Valley starter Mason Dillow in the bottom of the first inning in game one of Saturday's double header against the Pumas.

Shaking it off with a noticeable gimp down to first base, the Vaqueros third baseman eventually scored on a Paradise Valley wild pitch to give Central a 1-0 lead and it stayed that way through 5 1/2 innings.

Starter Matt Olsen threw six innings of the seven-inning first game and by his account, he probably threw ok. By everyone else's account in the stands and in the Central dugout, he threw fantastic again, shutting down the Pumas for six innings in striking out eight and allowing no runs.

Olsen wins his third straight, DJ Carpenter finished off the seventh inning, and Central wins with a 4-0 shutout.

With Central only having two infield bunt singles from Matt Aribal up to the bottom of the sixth inning, Kiko Romero ripped a single to right, Jake Jarvis walked for the second time, then catcher Seth Beckstead got a fastball in the lunchbox and there she goes.

A no-doubt-abouter way out of the park in left field.

With the 4-0 lead, DJ Carpenter closed down the Pumas in the top of the seventh.

After PVCC woke up in the first two innings scoring four runs in game two, they had no more left for the game as Daniel Davila, Shane Spencer (WP 1-0), Cristian Sanchez, Liam Evans and JD McLaughlin finished off the seven inning run-rule 20-4, for the sweep.

Even after PVCC scored their four runs, Central had still had a 7-4 lead after two innings.

The Vaqueros had early home runs to left field from Preston Godfrey and McLaughlin, and DH Tyler Griggs added his second homer of the year.

Game two featured fifteen Vaquero hits including two doubles and a fourth triple of the season for Dayton Dooney, another double from hot-hitting Romero, and Dusty Garcia tripled, piling on.

Central has started 12-0 with two conference wins and from here on out it's all conference-two's and the Vaqueros jump on the luxury charter to Cochise for Tuesday and back at The Big House Saturday against Scottsdale Community College.

Scottsdale played their first two games of the year on Saturday losing both to Chandler-Gilbert Community College.
