Vaqueros Score 25 Runs In DH-Capture Regular Season Title

It's something to be said for a conference when even the last place team plays you tough as in the case of Eastern Arizona.

And the Monsters played Central Arizona as tough as anyone this season until they got to the final two innings of their fourth and final matchup of the season Tuesday.

In the rain and wind, Central swept Eastern Arizona down south with a 7-5 first game win, but the second part of the second game was a sight to see. Central left having scored ten runs in the last two innings to win 18-7, even though they led only 8-7 after six innings.

Hunter Omlid won his 11th game (11-0) and Drew Sommers saved his fifth game in the first game, while Devon Dixon "continued to find the barrel" as coach Joe Perez says.

Dixon went 2-2 with a bomb and drove in two.

In that second game, JD McLaughlin, Tyler Griggs, and Seth Beckstead just went off.

Thirteen hits and thirteen rbi's between the three of them.

McLaughlin drove in five runs with two homers, Griggs went 5-5 and drove in five runs while hitting for the cycle, the first player to do that this year. He doubled twice, tripled, homered and singled.

Now that is a day.

Beckstead doubled, singled and blasted two homeruns.

With the first game win, the Vaqueros captured the ACCAC regular season title and will get the home field advantage in the regional playoffs, which begin next Thursday after this Saturday's regular season ending week-end.

With this year's Covid adjusted play-off format, two brackets are formed between all seven D1 teams in the ACCAC.

There will be a 6 versus 7 play-in game (#7 Eastern Arizona against Yavapai or Cochise) and from there the brackets will look like this:

Bracket One:

Seeds 1-4-6

Bracket Two

Seeds 2-3-5

The winner of each bracket squares off in a best two games-of-three for the regional championship. Central has the #1 seed and Pima Community College has the #2 seed.
