Bio

Tyler Wente joins the Vaqueros’ staff for his first season as an assistant coach after serving as an assistant at Chandler-Gilbert Community College in 2024.

Wente’s time with the Coyotes, he served as an assistant coach and worked directly with the pitching staff. He helped with pitching development and strategy that aided in a staff ERA of 4.53. The “Yotes had an overall record of 36-23 and a trip to a third consecutive regional finals.

Before coaching, Wente was the Director of Baseball Operations at Sacramento State. Wente took charge in the Hornet’s day-to-day operations. His responsibilities included, overseeing travel arrangements, managing equipment, catering services, creating itineraries and schedules, and was a liaison between Head Coach Reggie Christiansen and the players.

Wente spent two seasons, 2021-22, as a student manager at his alma mater where he assisted Head Coach Andy Stankiewicz everyday operations, practice and game preparation, worked with the field crew at GCU Ballpark before and after games, assisted with team travel, and served as a liaison between the equipment room and the team.

Prior to his position with the ‘Lopes, Wente served in a similar capacity as an equipment and operations manager for Head Coach Darin Thomas and the Mavericks in Arlington, Texas, for two years from 2018-20 as an undergraduate, while also assisting student-athletes as a tutor and study hall monitor. While with the UT Arlington program, he also created a presentation for coaches to use during recruiting trips to help highlight the program and university at large.

Although this is Wente’s first year as an assistant for the Vaqueros, he is not new to the program. He is the son of current Sacramento State assistant baseball coach Jon Wente who was the Head coach for the Vaquero’s baseball program from 2006-14. His mother, Sandra Wente, who is currently the Associate Head softball coach at Grand Canyon University, was the Head coach for the Vaquera’s softball program from 2007-2014.

Wente earned his undergraduate’s degree in business management in 2021 and his graduate’s degree in Business Administration in 2023 at Grand Canyon University.
