CAC Cross Country at the Thunderbird Invite

October 5th, 2019- Central Arizona College had a few men and women compete at the Mesa Classic, held at Mesa Community College on Saturday with some notable performances from both the men and women.

The Vaqueros were led by freshman Noah Olmos, a local runner from Vista Grande HS, with a time of 27:27 which was good enough for 8th overall.  Next to cross the line for the men was freshman Morgan Fowler with a 27:37 for an 11th place finish.  Rounding out scoring for the Vaqueros were Joseph Riddle (28:02), James Fincher (28:17), and Davin Soto (28:32).  "The men came together today and represented not only themselves but the program well.  Each person ran faster today than last week and are continuing to gain necessary experience for the 8k distance" stated Coach Jon Harmon.

The Vaqueras also had some quality individual performances on, however, did not have the necessary amount of runners to compete for a team score.  "We have one or two spots left to determine who is going to represent CAC at regionals and we wanted to give those runners and opportunity to show their progression thus far" stated Coach Harmon.  The Vaqueras were led by Taylor Murphy with a 20:33 on the 5km course.  Ariz Duarte was right behind Taylor with a 20:38 while teammates Janaya Macintosh (21:11) and Brittany Markee (21:15) were 18th and 19th, respectively.  Harmon stated, "These ladies understood that a spot or two remained open for representing CAC at regionals and each grinded it out till the very end, Coach Tavares and I are quite proud of them".

Central Arizona will be back in action on October 19th as the traveling team will be competing at the Bronco Invitational in Santa Clara, CA.  The meet hosts some of the top NCAA Division 1 and 2 teams, as well as some of the top NAIA colleges.  On the same day, those that did not make the trip to California will be competing at the Benedictine Invitational held at Freestone Park in Gilbert.
