11/8/2022

Central Arizona College lost a great man on Tuesday.  George Young, who is known around the community as a legend, passed away in Casa Grande early morning.

George Young was a 4x time Olympian, Coach, Professor, and an Athletic Director. He helped establish one of the most dominate athletic programs in the State and Nation during his time at Central Arizona.

"Coach Young is the epitome of what it means to be a Vaquero"  Stated Cross Country Coach Jon Harmon.  "We consider him the architect of our program and also the foundation of all Athletics here at CAC."

George Young served as the Athletic Director from 1973 until his retirement in 1996.  The gymnaisum at the college is rightfully honored in his name and he is considered the "Godfather" of all the success Central Arizona College has had in its 50 years.

"I can honestly say that a lot of us would not be here as coaches, staff, or administration if it was not for Coach Young"  "He was a big advocate for the community and keeping Coolidge and Casa Grande relevant for many years" Stated Harmon.

Coach Young served as a teacher with Casa Grande Union from 1963-1969 but lived in the community until his passing on Tuesday.

Olympian George Young is survived by his Wife Nancy, Son Joel, and Daughter Pam.  He will forever be remembered among the Vaquero family at Central Arizona College.
