Cross Country Continues Tradition of Signing Top Native American Runners

April 20, 2023

CAC has always had a strong tradition of bringing in some of the top Native American Athletes in all sports.  Cross Country, specifically, has never won a National Title without at least one Native American on its squad.  The 2023 season will be promising as the program was able to nab numerous Native American Athletes from Arizona and New Mexico, respectively.

"When I was brought on to lead the charge for the Cross Country teams I made it a point of emphasis to continue to recruit in Arizona and especially the Native American Communities" Stated Head Coach Jon Harmon.  "I am particularly excited for the upcoming class, a lot of top notch recruits have taken an interest in running at our college and continuing their academic endeavors."

The following Native American athletes have committed to the cross country programs:

Temyra Bia, Navajo from Chinle High School; was a State Runner-up in Cross Country and her team won the Team State Championship in 2022.

Micah Slivers, Navajo from Ganado High School; was a State Champion in Cross Country and his team placed 7th at State Championship in 2022.

Alesyia Barlow, Navajo from Snowflake High School; was 7th at the State Cross Country Championship and her team placed 3rd in 2022.

Seth Leslie, Navajo from Piedra Vista High School; was 27th at the State Cross Country Championship.

"I am excited to have those recruits and my returning runners trust in our program and their development.  I am blessed to be in this position and will continuously strive to return a National Title back to CAC."
