Cross Country Adds Stability to Programs in Connor Deakin

Monday

Connor Deakin joined Central Arizona Cross Country in August as an assistant to Head Coach Jonathan Harmon, gaining insight into a championship program and experience making decisions that impact the success of both teams moving forward.

"I've taken a step back to allow Coach Deakin an opportunity to really invest in the program and I'm quite happy with his commitment level."  Stated Head Coach Harmon.  "I've been trying to find a solid candidate for the assistant coach position for 5 years now and I believe Connor fills that void."

"When I think back to my time as Coach Paul Tavares' assistant, I've come to realize the success cross country had was mostly due to the stability and accountability we had in each other"  Stated Harmon, "Coach Deakin has a passion for coaching and you don't succeed in anything you do, especially coaching, without passion."

Coach Deakin stated "I am extremely honored and blessed to be a part of a historically great program and the great lineage of championship coaches. I am excited to bring in what I learned at my previous program and keep the mission the same, which is greatness. Our goal with this program is to win championships and to propel Central Arizona to the top athletically and academically. I hope this team will inspire many more generations of runners to live up to their potential and become pillars within the community. Coming to Central Arizona has been a wonderful aspect of my life and I am honored to be learning from and collaborating with Coach Harmon. I hope to make this program and athletes proud in doing so."
