Ouch! Vaqueras bang out 43 hits in ten-inning DH whitewash

Central Arizona softball made a go of it early by scoring nine runs in the the top of the first inning of a Saturday doubleheader at Gateway Community College, added six more in the second, and finished game 1 with a 15-0 shutout.

Central starter Baylee Eaton won her tenth game (10-2) of the season while giving up just one hit and striking out six in the run-rule five inning game.

The Vaqueras rapped six doubles and Makiya Thomas and Evelyn Roman each hit homeruns, Thomas going 4-5 and scoring three times in the leadoff position. Aliya Ewell added three more hits including two doubles, and Ariday Lopez, Danielle Farinas, Madison Besaw, and Nicole Ley all had two hits apiece.

In game two, Central had multiple runs in all five innings in a 16-0 shutout.

In this game, Thomas went 4-4 with a walk to give her a weekend. She finished 8-9 with four runs scored and four batted in. Five other Vaqueras had three hits apiece in Ewell, Roman, Besaw, Sonia Solis, and Samantha Domingo. Solis ended the day 4-5 with three walks.

With Ewell's three hits, she finished with a 6-9 weekend, knocking in three runs and scoring four times. With the Ariday Lopez double, it was the only extra base hit of the game as Central finished with 23 singles.

With 19 hits in game one, The Vaqueras rapped out 43 hits in ten innings Saturday.

And with the game two shutout from Trinity Valentine (5-3), the pitching staff gave up a total of five hits Saturday. Zero runs.

Now that's a weekend.

Central is now 18-7 and 11-6 in conference play. That's good for third place currently in the ACCAC-Div-I.

The team now has a .408 batting average and leads the conference in total hits, doubles, and stolen bases.
