Vaqueras Snag All Five Wins in Vegas Tournament to Begin Spring

Through the first five innings of the 2022 CSN Coyote Classic, CAC trailed 3-1 and had six outs left to play with. A six run sixth inning proved to be the difference and appeared to be the spark that the Vaqueras needed. In that inning, Ana Rodriguez, Brooke Williams, Nicol Ley, and Marina Acedo all picked up RBI hits. Acedo went on to lead off the top of the 7th inning with a line drive solo shot to left field, adding an insurance run that would ultimately result in a 8-6 win over CSN.

In game two, Ana Rodriguez pitched 6 innings (W), allowing 2 hits, 2 runs, and recording 11 K's. Offensively, the game featured a two-run home run off the bat of Jessica Mercado. Emily Churchill also delivered a pinch hit home run in this game, something that would sort of become to be the norm on the weekend in Vegas. CAC won the game 4-2 vs Northeastern.

In game three, the Vaqueras matched up with #4 Salt Lake. CAC won the game 11-4, on a strong pitching performance from Jessica Mercado (W, 5 IP, 5 H, 3 S0, 3 BB). Offensively, the Vaqueras erupted with four home runs - two by Ana Rodriguez, a Marina Acedo solo home run, and another Emily Churchill home run off the bench. This time, a three run moonshot. Brooke Williams and Nicol Ley combined for 4 hits in the game and set the tone with quality at bats. Ana Rodriguez had 6 RBI in the game vs SLCC.

In game 4 vs Trinidad, CAC erupted for 19 runs and won the game 19-1. In this contest, Ana Rodriguez went 4 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 8 K. Dezeray Levario came in to wrap up the 5th inning and completed a scoreless inning, while striking out the side. Offensively, Nicol Ley was 4-4 in the leadoff spot. Bella Garcia, Brooke Williams, Kyana Vieux, and Ana Rodriguez picked up two hits each in the game. Emily Churchill delivered another pinch hit homer.

In the final game of the weekend in Vegas, CAC beat Snow 10-3. Katelyn Woodard and Jessica Mercado pieced the game together in the circle and combined to go 7 innings, with Mercado picking up the win and Woodard the save (4 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 5 K). Katelyn was also 2-4 in the game at the plate with 2 RBI. Offensively, CAC was again led by Nicol Ley, who was 4-5 with a solo home run and 4 runs. Bella Garcia belted her first home run of the season, and Ana Rodriguez collected another 2 HR game.
