Vaqueras Place 11th at the George Oja Invitational

Saturday

Central Arizona College competed at the George Oja Invitational in Portland, OR on Saturday.  The meet was hosted by Linfield University and had a combination of NCAA, NAIA, and junior colleges not in the NJCAA system.

"I highlighted this meet on our schedule for various reasons" Stated Head Coach Jon Harmon, "I wanted us to race on complete grass, go against competition we normally wouldn't see, and learn to race on a quick turnaround for travel."

The Vaqueros placed 4th overall out of a field of 23 teams.  Losing to Portland (NCAA D1 Ranked 25th), CCC Elite (Semi-Professionals), Eastern Oregon (NAIA Ranked 10th).

"As a team the women finished stronger than preveious races but they still need to work on a few things if we expect to be competitive at the national level"  Stated Harmon.  "I'm proud of Jessica, Tatyana and Cassidy, they ran very well today."

The Vaqueras were led by Jessica Chaparro Viera who has now led the team in every race this season.  Jessica toured the 6km course in 23:20.60 and placed 45th out of 180 runners.  Jessica recorded a personal best and continues to make a claim to represent the Vaqueras very well at the national championship meet in November.
