Women's Basketball beats Central Arizona 53-36 to win third straight

YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Lady Matadors Women's Basketball team (16-5, 12-2) used a late third-quarter run to finish off the weekend sweep of Central Arizona (6-13, 5-8) on Saturday afternoon at the House Gymnasium.

Alliance Ndiba scored 24 points and grabbed 17 rebounds while Alynna Palacios scored seven points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the win over the Vaqueras.

Just like the night prior, Central Arizona jumped out to an early lead, taking a 6-3 advantage before the Lady Matadors went on a 7-0 run to open up a 10-6 lead. The Vaqueras closed the quarter on a 4-0 run to tie the game at 10-10. The Lady Matadors held Central Arizona to just five points in the second quarter and outscored the Vaqueras 13-5. Dyvine Harris hit a three just before the buzzer to give the Lady Matadors a 23-15 lead at the break, capping off a 7-0 run.

The Lady Matadors had their best offensive quarter in the third, scoring 16 points and holding Central Arizona to just nine points while pulling away. Ndiba scored half of her points in the fourth quarter, scoring 12 of the Lady Matadors' 12 points in the final quarter as the Lady Matadors came away with the 53-36 win.

Harris was the Lady Matadors' third-leading scorer with seven points and Davielis Berroa scored six points and hauled in six rebounds.

The Lady Matadors are back in action Friday, February 2, hosting the Yavapai Roughriders at 5:30 pm at the House Gymnasium. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for seniors while Arizona Western College students get in free with their AWC ID.
