It's A Blowout-Vaqueros Hit Phoenix 19-1

Jim Leyland, former MLB manager, used to say how he liked having Barry Bonds lead off when he was managing Pittsburgh, because he liked that pop in the first at bat.

Central's coach Anthony Gilich agrees so far.

The first words out of his mouth after a 19-1 win at Phoenix College were, "Ball hit for the cycle."

The Vaquero's leadoff hitter Ryan Ball bombed one in the first at bat of the game, then tripled, doubled, singled, and even added a walk while scoring for times in the game. Ball leads the team with fifteen walks.

The 19 runs came courtesy of 22 Vaquero hits, while Vaquero pitching gave up a mere two. A Phoenix homerun came off the tip of an outfielders glove in the seventh inning, accounting for the Bears only run.

Starter Daniel Davila pitched a Davila four innings with five sit-downs, a base hit and one walk in winning his first start of the year. Relievers Davis Spencer and Cody Brooks finished off the final three innings cleanly.

The top of the order (the first four) had twelve hits between them, and center fielder Jaylin Rae went four for five with a double and is now up to .314 while going eight of his last nine. Chase Valentine, Blake Avila, and Vinnie Lagatta also doubled, and number seven blasted one. It was Kiko Romero's first of the year.

"The bats really came alive today" said Gilich.

"They have a bunch of good arms so it was good to see our guys with a bunch of hard contact."

Central also grabbed six walks as the game was shortened to seven.

Romero drove in four runs and Hayden Seldomridge along with Tyler Griggs had sacrifice flies.

Wow!

Central is 4-0 in conference with a 13-1 overall record.

"Can't believe a quarter of our season is already over" said Gilich.

Next up: Two on Saturday down in Yuma against Arizona Western. The DH starts at noon.
