It's A Split With Western-Both Bring Pitching And The Sticks

Game one of the Saturday DH was seven innings, like each first game is, and what a beauty it was.

Until the Vaquero top of the seventh.

The score was 2-1 in favor of Central. Tyler Woessner had pitched a full six, giving up just one run, a homerun.

It's a "welcome to the game" first pitch line shot to right from Vinnie Lagatta leading off the seventh off of the new reliever Roland Marte. Arizona Western's Joseph Taveras had kept Central bats down to two runs after his six innings.

Catcher Trey Newman walked.

Sac bunt try ended up being a base hit from Tyler Griggs.

Bases loaded sacrifice fly from Ryan Ball.

A two run ground rule double from Ashtin Webb.

An infield pop-up makes it two outs.

Logan Valencia singles up the middle for a run.

Chase Valentine singles in another run.

A pinch single from Tyrese Johnson, so it's a six inning top of the ninth, the final was 8-1. Woessner pitched to two batters in the bottom of the seventh and a trunk slammer from Evan Harmon closed it out.

Woessner was masterful. 13 K's in 6.1 innings. He is now 3-0 with an ERA of 0.84.

In game two, Western starter Juan Gil Franco threw a beauty. He is now 2-0.

"This team is one of the better teams we play" said the head coach Anthony Gilich.

"They have good pitching, a total credit to them."

Central starter Tyson Heaton "threw pretty good" said Gilich.

"He was in the zone but we had a couple of miscue plays. He didn't walk anyone and had six strikeouts. He did very well."

"Miscue" plays are things like, balls lost in the sun, "I got it-you-take it", beautiful pitches that batters bloop in for base hits. Western took advantage of these plays, like only the good teams do.

Does it not seem like those "miscue" days" all happen to the same pitcher on any given day? As we all know, those days come from the baseball gods.

The second game final was Western chipping away, playing good baseball, and winning 8-2.

Ryan Ball hit his team leading fifth homerun in this game.

"He's starting to go" said Gilich.

Arizona Western and Central Arizona College are tied at the top in D1 play at 5-1 for the conference.

Tuesday and Wednesday it's a home-away against South Mountain, but weather looks to be in the forecast, so watch for some pre-planned changes on these two days.
