Western Nebraska Gets It From Both Barrels-Vaqueros Win 13-0

In the hitting barrel...

"We executed the hitting game plan well" said head coach Anthony Gilich.

"We didn't want to overpull anything, we wanted to pretty much keep everything up the middle, around there."

Hard to find any hitting execution issues in a 13-0 seven inning win Tuesday afternoon.

"Griggs is really starting to swing" he continued.

Tyler Griggs went a robust four-for-five with four ribs and three runs scored in the leadoff position, including a double, and Chase Valentine had yet another extra-baser with a triple.

Add on catcher Trey Newman going three-for-three with a double, Kiko Romero walking three times, and Devon Dixon also rapping a double.

In the pitching barrel...

Shane Spencer threw a planned four innings and struck out ten batters.

Ten out of sixteen.

How can you win a baseball game when your starter is throwing daggers?

"It's that devasting changeup he has" said Gilich.

It might also be the low slider, the fastball, and it might also be his command. Spencer is now 5-0.

"Yes the two guys are really throwing well right now" said Gilich.

This was about Matt Wilkinson and Drew Sommers.

The two are similar in stature (big boys), both left handed, and both with fiery, bad contact stuff, if any contact, that seemingly comes out of nowhere.

Peas.

Wilkinson struck out a massive eight in three innings on Tuesday after Shane Spencer, a grand total of eighteen sit-downs in seven innings.

Hm.

With the Arizona Western double-loss yesterday to Yavapai, it moved Central into a first-place tie with them at 13-3 in conference play.
