Woessner changeup for this strikeout is a stifler Saturday. He moves to 7-0 on the year with 5-1 win.

Vaqueros Pitching Does In Phoenix Twice

"We've been playing great lately, we're really preparing for later" said head coach Anthony Gilich.

"Woessner did his thing with a dominant slider today."

Tyler Woessner threw a great five innings striking out eight (that's his "thing"), and Liam Evans threw the final two scoreless innings as the Vaqueros from Central Arizona College took the seven-inning first game of a Saturday double header with a score of 5-1 over Phoenix College.

Central answered with a four-run bottom of the fourth after the Bears had tied the game at one, all of that fuled by a one-out liner to center from Vinnie Lagatta that scored two runs. Dusty Garcia stole second base with two strikes to put men on second and third when Lagatta came through.

Vaqueros hits only totaled six, but four of them were rbi hits. Add on three stolen bases and that's all a guy like Woessner needs.

Garcia went one-for-two with a walk, rbi, and scored twice, Lagatta drove in three all told, and Tyler Griggs singled with two-out in the bottom of the second to score the first Vaquero run.

Woessner is now 7-0.

Winning is another one of this "things".

Bang-bang for Central in game two because Vaquero bats had scored seven runs for starter Tyson Heaton after three innings, four runs scored in the bottom of the first.

It was 9-2 after four.

Ryan Ball leads off at first after sharp single to right field.

Central added three more runs in the sixth to run-rule Phoenix with a final of 12-2.

The Vaqueros beat thirteen hits with five walks and out of the thirteen, seven were doubles. In going three-for-three, Garcia doubled twice, score three times and drove in three more, then stole a base to beat the band. He has yet to be caught stealing this year.

Last year Garcia was 23-24 in SB's.

Extra base machine Chase Valentine doubled twice and added a sacrifice fly while driving in four more runs, Blake Avila drove in two with solid single, Ryan Ball and catcher Devon Dixon also doubled.

Heaton threw a consistent six innings (again), another solid-as-a-rock outing, and Davis Spencer threw the final inning giving up nothing while touching 96 on the radar.

Yes, Central is playing very well right now, it leads the ACCAC in most pitching categories, including the most important one (ERA), with a mark of 2.31, well over a full run less per game than the current second place ERA team in Cochise College.
