Central Scores A Bunch In Split With Eastern

-Blade-Contributing Beat Central Arizona College Baseball

(Signal Peak - This Eastern Arizona team can probably be around the top in most JUCO D1 conferences in the country, but they're in the ACCAC.

They seem better than the 22-28 (11-23) they currently sport, and there's no way Central Arizona College ever takes them lightly despite being in the seventh of seven position of the D1's in ACCAC play.

Throw in South Mountain with that convo as Central has split the last two doubleheaders with these two, both losses being one-run losses, and both games having finals of 6-5.

BUT.

The wins in these doubleheaders saw Central doing what no ther team can seemingly do, and that's win by scores of 19-6 and 18-3.

It's all about the long-haul when it gets to post season, which starts in about two weeks.

As it stands, the Central worst case scenario is a #2 seed in the regionals starting May 5th, a Thursday. The Vaquereos are currently tied for first with Arizona Western at 27-9 in conference, with the tie-breaker in hand.

The final conferences series' are this weekend with Central playing Yavapai up there.

This was not a Tyler Woessner normal result in the first game even though he threw like he normally does. Woessner gave up nine hits in four innings and only struck out two, while giving up six earned runs.

"We didn't quite get it because he was throwing really well" said head coach Anthony Gilich.

"Sliders were biting, fastball was good, they were really good at taking pitches and really hit a lot of good pitches."

It seemed like many of the Eastern hits in this first game came at great moments, some dropping in, a few balls hit hard. Before you knew it, Central was down 6-0 after three.

In this game, Central answered as usual and after five innings had closed the score to 6-5, and had opportunities to go ahead, but couldn't push them across yesterday.

Oh well, right?

"This was a really good pitcher they had and we knew that going in" said Gilich.

"We told the guys it was a test for them here, this is the guy."

Gila Monster starter Alan Aguero is the guy and he was in game one doing his thing until he took a liner on the body from Kiko Romero in the fifth, and Blake Avila then hit the Eastern relievers' first pitch over the fence.

The final was a 6-5 game one loss.

After two innings in game two, however, Central was up 7-0 on the way to an 18-3 win.

Central hit three homeruns in game two and second through fifth hitters in the batting order in Jaylin Rae, Kiko, Avila and Dusty Garcia had fourteen rbi's between them, and the pitching story said a lot to boot.

Starter Tyson Heaton had his best outing of the year striking out ten Monsters in six innings, and it was Davis Spencer striking out the side in the seven-inning run rule game.

Rae hit his second of the year in the sixth inning, a three run homer, Kiko blasted another one for a three-run in the fifth, and Garcia planted a solo homerun in the second.

"Trey Newman is also hitting really well" said Gilich.

"He's really coming around"

He caught both games and had three hits.

"I really give our guys credit-I saw serious fight in the last two DH's. It's tough playing teams that are eliminated (South Mountain and Eastern), because it seems like when you jump on them they roll over because they have nothing to lose, but when they jump on you first, they can let it all hang out."

It looks like Central will host a Regionals series May 5th, but as a #1 or #2 seed is unknown.

You can feel andrenaline amping up.
