ON DEMAND-WATCH REPLAY GAME 1

(Salt Lake City) - Very windy day, aluminum bats and a final of 22-16?

Sure!

There were eight homeruns hit that just sailed out on the day.

"I thought the field played a little long" said head coach Anthony Gilich.

"But it's aluminum bats and the wind was pretty much blowing out. It's a beautiful field."

Central Arizona College went ahead, then fell behind, and then REALLY went ahead with a ten-run eighth inning to close out Southern Idaho in the first Vaquero District Finals game.

Lots of players saw action in this one for Central at the plate, yet only Tyler Woessner and Tyson Heaton pitched. Kiko Romero drove in five runs with two homeruns, scored three times and went three-for-five overall, Ashtin Webb drove in four with three hits, and seven other players had two hits, including Chase Valentine, but one of his was over the fence in left for a three-run yank.

That ten-run eighth made the score 18-13, but early on, Central trailed by four at 11-7 in the fifth, then went on a 15-2 run in the Salt Lake Community College ballpark.

"I love Heaton's mindset" Gilich said.

Heaton relived Woessner in the fourth inning and "steadied the ship" throwing the final five and two-thirds.

"We needed innings and he gave them to us. We were a little worried there until that eighth inning"

SLCC won the day's first matchup againt Southeastern Community College from Nebraska.

Central meets SLCC Friday afternoon in the winnners bracket at 3PM. There are three games total today, two of them being elimination games.
