Vaqueros Stung By SLCC-Then Run Over Southeastern On Friday In West District Finals

Blade-Beat writer Central Arizona College Baseball

(Salt Lake City) - After having scored forty-six runs in three games, you'd think this would be all over.

In game four of the winners bracket, the two undefeated teams squared off in another hitters game, and after Ryan Ball walloped a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth, Central Arizona College trailed Salt Lake Community College 12-11.

But that was the final.

Salt Lake moved to 2-0 and in the finals of the West District Tournament, leaving Central Arizona at 1-1 with a must-win against Southeastern Community College, then two wins in a row against SLCC.

The first of that equation was completed in a 13-2 win, Patrick Steitz throwing the best Central game on the mound so far. It was a six inning run-rule game.

Central must now beat SLCC twice in a row today to move on to the JUCO World Series.

The first game is at 12 noon, the second is scheduled for 3:00PM.

In the game two loss, the first four Central batters combined for ten hits and nine rbi's, and Tyrese Johnson added three more hits, but Central battled and battled from behind most of the game, but fell short 12-11.

Leadoff batter Ryan Ball had four hits including a ninth inning two-run homer, scored four times and knocked in three runs, Kiko Romero homered two more times driving in five runs, and Central totaled fifteen hits, but a three run Bears ninth inning nailed down the win.

Patrick Steitz started and threw a solid elimination game for Central striking out six batters in five innings as CAC eliminated Southeasern Community College of Nebraska 13-2 in a six inning game.

In this one, Jaylin Rae went four-for-four with two doubles, Ashtin Webb went three-for-three with two doubles and a triple and Central piled it on early, leading 7-0 after two innings.
